NEC Motorcycle Live 2012

Last week, for the first time, I went to Motorcycle Live at the NEC.  It’s the UK’s largest and most popular motorcycle event.  A nine day show of pure motorcycle indulgence!

I do love the outdoors; the peace of the mountains, the stillness and silence that you can get from being in remote places that you may have spent hours or even days getting to under your own steam… BUT I’m also a petrol head and I love motorbikes!!

The place was full of top racers and biking celebrities, a few of which I was lucky enough to meet and be on the Blackhorse stage with for a Q&A due to our common ground in ‘adventure’.

On the Blackhorse stage at Motorcycle Live 2012

Si Pavey, is an off road motorbike riding god, he’s shortly off to to do the Dakar rally (probably the most gruelling off road motorbike race in the world) for the ninth time.

Kevin and Julia Sanders, Globebusters, take people on adventures of a lifetime on their motorbikes around the world.  They spend months on their  BMW’s and travel thousands of miles!

Charley Boorman, well this man, he’s done a few interesting things on motorbikes too!!

James Whitton, former superbike champion, was our host.  He’s a very funny man.  We talked about some of the things we’ve all done and our experiences with off road and adventure motorcycling.

Later on I was invited back on stage to do a quiz show.  It was done in the style of ‘A Question of Sport’ and I have to admit I didn’t offer many correct answers!  But hey, it’s the taking part, right?

With the team doing a quiz show!

It was a pleasure to spend time with all of these people and it was a real treat being at the show and seeing all the new bikes for 2013.  I’ve got my eye on the new improved BMW F 800 GS & the R 1200 GS looks amazing too!
