Having been misdiagnosed at the age of 23 Kris discovered she had breast cancer. Within weeks of her diagnosis Kris, with her twin sister set up Coppafeel, a charity that uses all of its money and time to heighten awareness of the symptoms of breast cancer to prevent other women being in the same boat as Kris. I had the pleasure of meeting Kris when I was doing my ElliptiGo trip around Europe – she’s lovely, funny, a complete inspiration and very cool.

For Luca

www.facebook.com/ForLuca1

Luca was struck down age 3 with Meningococcal Septicaemia in January 2012 and his life changed forever. The horrendous disease ravaged every part of his body in hours and left him fighting for his life! With less than a 3% chance of survival Luca pulled through however he was not unscathed. Luca lost both of his legs and huge amounts of his tissue, muscle and skin.

His family have battled to save his knees to give him the best chance to use a wide range of prosthetics. Some not available on the NHS. They are raising funds to cover the huge costs of prosthetics over Luca’s lifetime giving him every chance to excel in every aspect of his future. Luca’s family ask people to raise a hand in support to raise awareness of Luca’s campaign and this horrendous disease.

wings

Wings of Kilimanjaro

Wings of Kilimanjaro is an incredible annual adventure on Mt Kilimanjaro, one of the 7 Summits. Participants in the WOK event each year aim to ascend Kilimanjaro’s 19,341 foot peak, and then launch themselves from the summit and paraglide back down.

As part of this annual adventure, the team raises huge amounts of money for charity projects, which improve the lives of Tanzanians in a multitude of ways – from digging wells for fresh water to building schools. I was part of the WOK team in 2013 and these were the charities that we supported that year.

solea

Solea

Solea is a community charity in France, which supports cancer research and community projects. It was set up with the support of and for a very dear friend of mine who had cancer, which she lived with for nine years. Her strength and courage during that time fuelled my motivation both then and now to be strong, to get on with life and be thankful for each day – even when it seems impossible. The Solea registered office is 4 Les Hauts de Tovière A, 73320 Tignes. Lucy Miller is the president of the association.

Having been lucky enough to travel to and explore both Nepal and Tibet and join the foundation on their service treks I have been able to see first hand the work this charity does and I really enjoy supporting them.

Treetops Hospice

www.treetopshospice.org.uk

Treetops is a hospice near to where I grew up. The hospice provides palliative care for adults with life-limiting illnesses such as cancer, multiple sclerosis and motor neurone disease. They offer day care, homecare, complimentary therapy, carers support and bereavement support. My Mum became a volunteer there which is how I became aware of the charity’s incredible work. I have been deeply moved by the stories that Mum has shared with me.
